2024 Holiday Festival Information
Please mark your calendars for your participation in the following:
Sunday, December 1 8:00 a.m. * Put up lights on the flyover bridge
10:30 a.m. ** Decorate the Waring/Zion Triangle
*We look forward to as many folks as possible to join in this important activity (many hands make light work). Sunday morning parking in the area is congested, consider rideshare. You can use a "Reply All" in this email to work out arrangement.
** We discussed our dismay with the 2023 loss of the decorated tree shortly after we put it up (fortunately, the theft was after the lighting ceremony) and whether we should forego a tree in light of the possibility of recurrence. It was decided that we will go forward with the tree. We discussed other and additional means to decorate the Triangle. The ideas included a wooden sign with lighting, banners, a Menorah, Kwanzaa, and other symbols of the holiday season. It is too late to implement those ideas for the 2024 season, but the earlier we begin work the better and perhaps we can create committee to work on this. We will ask the San Diego Police for a little extra surveillance once the tree is up.
Wednesday, December 4 6:30 p.m. +/- (exact time will be established once the Triangle lighting schedule is determined) *Tree Lighting at the Triangle
*This event draws the community together when outstanding students from each Foster Elementary and Marvin Elementary turn on the tree lights and receive certificates of appreciation of their work. Our Councilmember generally attends and we look forward to his comments this year as well. the ceremony will be followed by Holiday songs led by a members of the Lewis Middle School band. We need someone to take responsibility for photographs of the activities, particularly of the children during the lighting and presentation, for the next issue of the Mission Times Courier. Invite your neighbors.
Thursday, December 5 6:00 p.m,. *Holiday Festival at Lewis Middle School
*We need a crew at about 5:30 p.m. to help in setting up the flowers on the stage and to remain at the door to hand out drawing tickets to the children in attendance. Our thanks to the Optimist Club and its members for the generous contribution to the purchase of Barnes & Nobel gift certificates and for their offer of help in giving out the tickets and program.
Sunday, January 5 8:00 a.m. *Take down the lights on the flyover bridge and Triangle
*This is every bit as important as putting the lights up. We need the same crew who put the lights up to take them down. Volunteers are always welcome, so please come and join us. Members of the AGGCC wish you and your families a very happy and safe holiday.
